Laboratory Jaw Crusher and Flotation Machine Testing in Russia: Y&X On-Site Mineral Analysis Support

Y&X completed an on-site technical support visit at a mineral laboratory in Russia running mineral analysis and beneficiation testing on ore samples. The visit covered sample preparation with a laboratory jaw crusher and flotation experiments with a laboratory flotation machine. The laboratory used its own ore samples, so results reflect the material as received rather than a prepared reference standard.

Before a flotation test is meaningful, the ore must be reduced to the size the test can work with. During the visit the laboratory jaw crusher prepared samples in stages, so the material stayed representative and fines stayed controlled.

The laboratory flotation machine was then used for flotation experiments to study mineral separation under laboratory conditions, observing how the ore responds to reagent addition, aeration and conditioning time.

A single tank cell uses a defined sample mass with adjustable impeller speed and air intake, and concentrate and tailings are collected separately. The XFD single tank flotation machine with frequency conversion drive allowed tests to be repeated at identical impeller speed for reliable comparison, and operating parameters were recorded for each run so results can be reproduced later.

Jaw crushing and flotation are important stages in many mineral testing workflows. Proper sample preparation provides material suitable for later experiments, while flotation tests reveal the beneficiation characteristics of the ore. Inconsistent crushing, excess fines or contamination from a previous sample reduce the value of the flotation results, however carefully the test itself is run.
